If you are a teacher, and you are not phoning student's homes on a nightly basis, you are missing out on one of the best classroom discipline tricks there is.
It takes only a few minutes to call 4 or 5 student's parents. You can introduce yourself, and start a dialogue on their child. You do not need to, nor should you, complain about the student on the first call home. You need to meet and greet first.
Do not call for each and every problem. Only serious ones. In fact, you may call to praise a student, and as an aside, mention something they need to work on.
If you have never tried this, you will be amazed at how many students change. Once they and other students know you call home, they will be aware that what they do in class matters.
