Girls and Math

I taught high school at an inner city high school and never saw any math phobia among girls.

In fact, girls were the better students. We do them a disservice by thinking they can't do math unless we make accommodations. The problem is getting girls to go to do something with their math skills.

From computer science, to engineering. From a nurse to a research scientist. All these jobs need a boat load of math. Girls should be encouraged to seek a career in these fields.

Get your female students interested in math by showing them other women who have been in math and made major contributions. We have a website that lists the top ten women in math history. It gives a very short bio just to pique the interest in finding out more about them.
